What Does Your Donation Do? | Breast Cancer Society

Jun 6, 2013 | Posted by BCS

It Makes A Difference In The Lives Of Those Battling Breast Cancer Today.

The Breast Cancer Society is one of the few national breast cancer charities in the United States with a primary focus on providing direct help and assistance to those suffering from breast cancer. Our guiding mission is to provide relief to those who suffer from the effects of breast cancer now, as well as to work cooperatively with and give support to other personnel, individuals and organizations that share in the goal of helping cancer patients, the critically ill, and the impoverished.

Every donation makes a huge difference. We feel a strong sense of responsibility to maximize the effect of every dollar that we receive.

The Breast Cancer Society relies on fundraising campaigns for both the capital and public awareness needed to accomplish our mission and keep our programs open for patients.?We are constantly shifting our strategies to ensure that we are keeping administrative costs low, and exploring the most cost effective fundraising programs. We are working hard to reduce our fundraising costs and any additional overhead expenses to maximize what we can do with each and every dollar entrusted to us.?

For example, we spend only 2% of our revenue on administrative costs, an important step that few national charities with our reach can boast of.

Where Does Your Donation Go? To breast cancer patients and their families, the critically ill and the impoverished.

Is Your Donation Making A Difference? YES!

Through education, direct cash assistance, research funding through grants, academic scholarships, in-home care, and by providing medical supplies, care-giving products, and referral services, we have made a difference in the lives of tens of thousands of men and women, and this is in just a few short years of operation.

Direct Financial Assistance:

Qualified applicants may receive assistance in the form of monthly financial grants of $100 for up to six months. These funds can be used at the discretion of the patient to supplement his or her needs. Additionally, larger one-time grants are given to families facing extreme financial circumstances due to treatment costs.

Scholarship Opportunities for Breast Cancer Survivors and Their Children:

Through the Empower One Scholarship Fund and the Hope Scholarship Fund, The Breast Cancer Society provides funding for the ongoing educational development of breast cancer survivors and children of breast cancer fighters.

In-Home Care Program

Our In-Home Care Program is a cost-free program that pairs skilled caregivers with breast cancer patients in need of short term (non-medical) assistance after surgeries or during treatment. Services include: bathing assistance, bedding change, meal preparation, light housekeeping, picking up medication, transportation to doctors? visits, etc.

Hope Supply Program

By coordinating with generous retailers and manufacturers, The Breast Cancer Society provides a wide range of sought after items and personal care supplies for patients and their families, many of whom have sold everything they own to pay for cancer treatments. Patients schedule private and confidential appointments to visit our warehouses and select products and supplies they need from our inventory.

International Medical Aid

The Breast Cancer Society has partnered with medical clinics in numerous under-developed and impoverished countries in Africa, Central America, and South East Asia to provide medications and medical supplies to doctors treating breast cancer patients, the critically ill and impoverished. Together, we are working to prevent breast cancer, and addressing the effects of breast cancer, such as lymphedema and related infections.
